How to Help Sphynx Cats Keep Warm

Sphynx cats are cute and adorable hairless cats. They lack fur and their skin is soft like chamois. Sphynx cats are indoor cats mainly because of their need to be kept warm. As a pet owner, you can do many things to help keep your sphynx cat warm at all times.

Keep temperature around your house to a warm level. Set the thermostat to around seventy. This should be comfortable enough for your cat. Sphynx cats like to sleep where it is warm. You will often find them snuggled up near a windowsill when it is hot and sunny outside. Give your cat access to windows and keep the breakables away to prevent untoward accidents from happening.

Provide your cat with a warm and comfortable bed. Keep it fluffed and soft with fleece blankets or you can place your worn out sweaters for your cat to snuggle on. Observe where your cat usually takes a nap. Sphynx cats are heat-seeking and they will tend to frequent warm places. It should not come as a surprise that apart from windowsills, you will find them near stoves, burners and vents. You can place your cat’s bed in these areas. However, as responsible a pet owner, you should take extra precautions to ensure the safety of your cat and your home. Place a gate in front of wood stoves, cover hot burners when not in use and see to it that your cat does not come in contact with the heater vents when they are hot.

Another way to keep sphynx cats warm is by dressing them up with cat sweaters. You can make one on your own out of old socks for kittens and old shirt sleeves for adult cats. You can cut holes on them for the head and legs of your cat. You can also buy sweaters from most local pet stores or online.
